"We are the silver tongued samurai, poets sittin
curbside, always bringin it live, rockin the local hip hop vibe."
Curbside is the combination of Unknown and Storytella, two
local poetry artists and avid free stylers. Organix on Bass and multiplicities
with the crazy sampled turntable mayham. It's also anyone and everyone dedicated
to the art of spoken word or just makin noise to be heard. Hip Hip in it's
most raw form. Often just an M. C. and a beat box, you can catch these cats
walking city streets lookin all crazy like passin the word back and forth
like a bouncy ball. Curbside came together just this summer when the two poets
started hanging out and free styling like it was an unearthly addiction. They
can be seen every third Monday of the month at a local poetry night they host
at the Twisted Vine. A mixture of serious and silly they cover topics everywhere
from politics to imaginary trips to the insane asylum.
Curbside is influenced by the likes of Ozomatli, Diggable Planets,
Blue Scholars, Pharcyde, Living Legends, Saul Williams, and numerous other
artists too many to name. So leave all your expectations of what Hip Hop is
about because these cats are bound to break them into little pieces. They
don't even know what's gonna happen.
"When your found your lost, When your lost your
found, Two feet touch ground, Hands meet in a pound with that concrete soul
brotha sound."
